Beyond the Door: How In-Person Payments Can Supercharge Your Event Business

There’s nothing worse than seeing a long line at your event and not being able to process sales fast enough. Every stalled transaction is lost revenue, whether that’s a $30 ticket or a $60 hoodie. Over the course of a night, that can add up to hundreds or even thousands in missed income. That’s why we built In-Person Payments (IPP): a simple way to turn every moment into revenue.

Think of IPP as a magic button inside the Posh app. With just an NFC-enabled iPhone, you can swipe, tap, and charge on the spot, no clunky card reader needed. Tickets, add-ons, or even a hoodie from your merch table—it all syncs directly into your Posh dashboard with instant payouts and full analytics. Here’s how to set it up in minutes.

You can even control which ticket tiers show up for IPP. When creating or editing ticket types in your dashboard, simply toggle whether a tier should be "Available In-Person" or "Available Online." This keeps your check-in screen clean and focused, which makes it perfect for fast-moving door sales.

Don’t Miss Out at the Door

Even the most organized presale can’t capture everyone. People decide last minute, they bring friends along, or they simply prefer to pay in person. Without a fast way to charge at the door, those extra guests can slip through or worse, turn away. Multiply that by dozens of walk-ups, and it’s easy to see how quickly organizers can lose out. IPP makes sure those moments become revenue, not missed opportunities.

For their first-ever ticketed event, Slappers n Bangers leaned on IPP and it paid off big time.

“We had two lines: one for IPP, one for presales. It made check-in so much more seamless and efficient.”

By the end of the night, 15% of their sales came from in-person payments. Money they would’ve otherwise missed out on. Even better, every guest who paid at the door became a new contact for their community.

“Because we did so many in-person sales, we walked away with a whole new list of people who are now part of our community.”

IPP doesn’t just keep the line moving, it turns drop-ins into loyal fans as you get to collect emails and phone numbers for these walk ups.

Pro Tip: instruct your door team to say, “Can I get your phone number for the receipt?” after a tap-to-pay transaction. If the attendee already has a Posh account (or if they create one to receive the receipt) their info gets added to your Marketing tab. That means one more person you can reach in future events through SMS campaigns.

Beyond Ticket Sales

The real power of IPP is flexibility. It’s a way to capture any kind of transaction that happens during your event. From impulse buys to last‑minute upsells, IPP keeps everything simple and centralized. Organizers are already finding creative ways to use it:

  • Dynamic pricing: Raise ticket prices as the night goes on, or offer flash discounts on slow nights. With the custom amount option in IPP, you can also charge on the spot for anything, whether it’s not listed in your ticket tiers, a bundled deal, or even something else that isn't a ticket itself. It gives you total flexibility to adapt pricing in real time.
  • Merch sales: From tees to tote bags, sell items at the door without juggling a separate system.
  • VIP upgrades: Offer a spontaneous meet-and-greet or table upgrade right at check-in.
  • Food & drink vouchers: Bundle a cocktail ticket or snack pass directly into your sales flow.
  • Donations & sponsorships: Collect contributions or activate sponsors seamlessly, right at your event.

Anywhere money changes hands at your event, IPP can make it seamless and make sure it’s all tracked in one place.

In-person doesn’t have to mean messy cash boxes or missed chances. With IPP, every line is a sales channel, every guest is a future regular, and every transaction is a chance to grow your business. So the question isn’t if you should use IPP, it’s how much more growth you’re ready to unlock.
